According to the Borno State Police Command, 14 people are accused of using violent behaviour at political rallies and are currently being tried in court.
Thursday, Abdu Umar, the commissioner of police, said that seven cases were being tried in several courts.
He said that two members of the People's Democratic Party and 12 members of the All Progressives Congress were each facing legal action for crimes involving the illegal possession of firearms and threats of violence.
The defendants are also accused of causing harm and mischief, upsetting the peace, and encouraging others in a disruptive way.
According to the CP, the Command was dedicated to guaranteeing a free and fair election. Following the Inspector General of Police's (IGP) direction, Baba Usman would arrest and prosecute anyone or organisations inciting violence.
Umar promised that the command would keep working with other security organisations to ensure the election went off without a hitch.
He added: “Whenever there are progress issues, those behind the scenes must be working to deter the progress.
“The assertion that somebody will disrupt the 2023 elections cannot be possible. We have so far arrested 119 suspected miscreants in various black spots who were working or trying to truncate peace.
“The police are very blessed with manpower.
“Apart from the conventional strength from the command, we have added four Mobile Police Force squadron units comprising about 1,800 policemen.
“This is apart from the other sister agencies that will also deploy their men.”
The CP appealed to residents in the state to be law-abiding citizens, adding that political actors should also ensure that they play the game according to the law.
Umar also enjoined the people to report any suspicious movement and object in their environment to enable the police adequately secure the state.
