The PSC announced the suspension in a statement on Thursday. The suspension was effective immediately.
According to the statement, the PSC also directed that the final investigation into the matter be completed so that the commission could take any further action that was required.
"In a letter to the Inspector General of Police (I-G) signed by its acting Chairman, Justice Clara Ogunbiyi, retired, the commission has carefully examined the facts of the case," according to the PSC statement. "It has approved the officer's suspension from duty with immediate effect after reviewing the allegations made against him."
It stated that the PSC had condemned the lawyer’s unprovoked killing and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. It also called for proper training of police personnel on weapon management.
Mrs Raheem was killed on Christmas Day by a policeman attached to Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah.
