Twitter to shut down newsletter product Revue next year

Days after owner Elon Musk revealed he was interested in purchasing rival online publishing platform Substack, Twitter said on Wednesday that it will stop producing its newsletter service, Revue, in the coming year.

In 2021, the social media network purchased Revue for an unknown sum as the demand for newsletters increased due to the pandemic and as it attempted to draw users who wanted to monetize their followings.

At the time, Twitter had stated that all users would get access to Revue's premium features for free and that it would reduce the cost of the paid newsletter in order to let authors keep a larger portion of subscriber fees.

"This has been a hard decision because we know Revue has a passionate user base, made up of people like you," Twitter said in a post to users.

"We'll cut to the chase: from January 18, 2023, it will no longer be possible to access your Revue account. On that date, Revue will shut down and all data will be deleted."

Revue was founded seven years ago in the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands.
