Thursday, the Osun Police charged Funke Adetunji, 48, and Isaac Sunday, 25, in an Ile-Ife Magistrates' Court for allegedly stealing 80 cartons of eggs.
According to ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, who represents the prosecution, the defendants committed the crime on November 27 at around 8:06 p.m. at the Garbrik Poultry Farm in the Alakowe Area of Ile-Ife.
According to Abdullahi, the defendants and another person who is now on trial in Suit No. MIF/340c/2022 colluded to conduct a criminal, namely theft.
Eluyemi Bowofolu's 80 egg cartons, valued at N144,000, were stolen by the accused, he stated.
He claimed that the offence violates sections 390(9) and 516 of the criminal code as written in the Laws of Osun, 2002.
However, the defendants entered a not guilty plea to conspiracy and theft.
In the most lenient terms possible, M. A. Adeyemi, the defence attorney, requested bail for Adetunji.
Even though Sunday was not represented by counsel, he promised that his client would not skip bail and would instead offer trustworthy sureties.
The defendants were granted bail in the amount of N100,000 with one surety in the same amount from Magistrate O. B. Adediwura.
Adediwura stated that the surety must provide three current passport photos and swear to an affidavit of means.
The hearing in the case was postponed until January 17.
