Why Emefiele will not appear before Reps, CBN writes

Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, will not testify before the House of Representatives on Thursday, the top bank has said.

Aisha Ahmad, the CBN's Deputy Governor for Financial System Stability, will represent Emefiele.

Emefiele was reportedly sick and will not physically appear before the legislators, according to the most recent letter sent to the House by Edward Adamu, Deputy Governor, Corporate Services, CBN.

Emefiele missed his second opportunity to appear before the House on Tuesday.

His hearing was postponed for Thursday amid protests and criticism, with the MPs demanding to suspend the cash withdrawal caps established by the top bank.

Emefiele had been called before the House to discuss the CBN's most recent policy, which put restrictions on cash withdrawals from Deposit Money Banks and other financial institutions.

Amid Wednesday's plenary, Gbajabiamila read Amadu's letter to the members, and the legislators decided to accept Emefiele's representation.

Details to come...
