Bello said in a statement that the government is doing all within its power to step up efforts to combat the scourge of climate change in the state, as this necessitates the adoption of cleanliness in all forms and making sure that all safety measures are adhered to by citizens.
We started a thorough, year-round cleaning and maintenance programme that included dredging drainage channels and canals and building new drainage, and these initiatives were successful.
Lagos, despite its characteristics as a coastal state with low-lying terrains and a large population density, among others, managed effectively, Bello said. "Some states were regrettably affected by floods this year," he added.
He emphasised that Lagosians must show the greatest amount of respect to the environment by not desecrating it as they moderately rejoice.
Bello reminded everyone that during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, a lot of rubbish will be produced as is normal. He urged for the correct disposal of all such wastes and the right sorting, bagging, and placement of them at specified sites.
He gave the residents of Lagos the assurance that the Lagos State Rubbish Management Authority (LAWMA) will appropriately respond by hauling away any waste or trash that could be produced during the time.
He said that this government is leading the charge for a healthier populace and a cleaner environment and that it will constantly exhort Lagosians to refrain from anything that can harm the environment.
Additionally, he warned citizens against keeping fuel and other combustible items in their houses, places of business, retail establishments, or marketplaces since doing so might contribute to the spread of fires, especially during this time of year when almost everything is dry and flammable.
Bello also cautioned drivers against travelling in foggy or harmattan conditions, which can cause vision to drop to less than 10 metres. He emphasised that before starting any journey, drivers should check that all of their car's components are in excellent working order.
