According to Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), founder and chancellor of Afe Babalola University in Ado Ekiti, Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) is the most qualified contender to succeed current President Muhammadu Buhari in the approaching 2023 elections.
He asserted that the only those opposed to Obi are those responsible for the nation's current underdevelopment.
He stated, “Unless you are part of the old system that has brought us to where we are, there is no way you will oppose a young man like Mr Peter Obi, an untainted, young, educated man with ideas from being the president of Nigeria.”
This year marks the 60th anniversary of Babalola’s call to the Bar as a lawyer. He and Obi have much in common, including a shared appreciation for a good education.
Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, and Afe Babalola are loyal to each other. This endorsement from Afe came just four days after Obasanjo backed Obi.
Babalola, speaking on Obasanjo in 2015, called him “a very energetic, strong-willed, and stubborn person.” Obasanjo had the unusual opportunity to rule the nation three times, as Military Head of State in the late 1970s and as president from 1999 to 2007.
When asked who the best Nigerian president was, he said Obasanjo.
Chief Afe Babalola, speaking at the third convocation of Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti, revealed that he had worked with Obasanjo as his lawyer before the latter was appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council of the University of Lagos.
Previously, Babalola had declined four presidential offers to the ministerial position and revealed that Obasanjo had pressured him into accepting the appointment.
