The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) plans to meet with the leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to ensure adequate fuel supply during the general election in 2023.
INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu said on Tuesday during a consultative meeting with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Abuja that the commission was concerned about the fuel situation because it could disrupt election preparations.
Mr Yakubu stated that the commission was concerned about fuel shortages and their impact on transportation during election days.
"The truth is that product availability may have a negative impact on our arrangements," he said.
"As a result, the commission will meet with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) this afternoon to look into ways to ameliorate the situation," Mr Yakubu added.
He said the meeting was to fashion out ways of ensuring adequate supply to prevent disruption of INEC plans for the general election.
“I wish to assure Nigerians that we will continue to engage every national institution for the success of the 2023 General Election,” Mr Yakubu said.
