The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) asked security officials to investigate yesterday whether or not the individuals detained by their agents in Enugu State were actually IPOB members.
It was asserted that these individuals were criminals employed by politicians to assault their rivals.
The group claimed in a statement issued by IPOB's Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, that a woman who had been detained in the state and was being paraded as an IPOB member was actually a suspected executioner who had been hired by politicians in Enugu State and used as one of their thugs against their political rivals.
“The so-called suspected female executioner in Enugu State paraded as an IPOB member was recruited by Enugu State politicians as a member of their thugs, used against their political opponents.
“They employed the thugs to terrorise their opponents, notably during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries. At a point when they could no longer manage them after arming them and paying them salaries, they caused division among them,’ IPOB asserted.
Security services were urged to “open their eyes” since “a lot of our youths have been killed just because the politicians want to stay in power.”
The group demanded that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi launch an inquiry into the matter.
