Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has endorsed former President Olusegun Obasanjo's assertion that Peter Obi, the candidate for president of the Labour Party, LP, is the most qualified candidate to win the upcoming election and provide Nigerians with the kind of leadership they so desperately desire. Obasanjo expressed support for the idea in an open letter.
He asserted that if he hadn't already joined the Peoples Democratic Party or PDP, he would have organised Obi's statewide campaign.
In a message to Nigerians on Tuesday in Makurdi, Governor Ortom endorsed Mr Obi as "the guy who has the potential to successfully confront the economic, security, and other crises facing the country." Terver Akase is Governor Ortom's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
The Governor “is convinced that Obi possesses the qualities of a leader who will be a true President of this country by guaranteeing justice, equity, and fairness for all Nigerians,” as stated by the advisor.
“The Governor stresses that for some years, the country has been on the verge of collapse, owing to leadership failure and its attendant consequences of poverty, heightened insecurity with banditry, kidnappings and other acts of terrorism threatening the very foundations of the nation.
“He says the President that Nigeria needs at this challenging time in the country’s history is one who understands the urgent need to unite the people and speedily initiate policies and actions to redirect the ship of the nation on the path of growth and development, and emphasises that Peter Obi has all such qualities.”
According to Governor Ortom, “Chief Obasanjo has once again demonstrated objectivity, truth, and patriotism as a statesman whose views on national issues must be taken seriously.”
