Trouble began when women's organisations from the Catholic Church and the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) gathered at the destroyed parish early on Tuesday morning to pray for Rev. Achi's assassins.
However, a Kafin-koro Police Division police squad was sent there, claiming to have been given the order to protect the worshippers.
The women protested and rejected the protection that was given to them because they were still upset at the police's failure to save their priest in time.
According to reports, the women begged the operatives to leave after accusing the police of not doing more to save the Reverend Father's life.
The police were eventually ordered to return to their station after the women made their opinions known by throwing stones and water sachets at them.
Following the prayers, a number of young people peacefully made their way to the Police Division while chanting anti-police chants to express their displeasure.
They said their presence presented no threat to the community and asked that the police leave.
When the police fired into the air to scatter the crowd, a middle-aged man was reportedly hit by a bullet and quickly killed.
A fire in the Police Division was lit by an unidentified group of people at some time during the rally, and it ultimately burned the entire building.
It has been alleged that a group of protesters set fire to the entire police station as a result of the ensuing altercation with the police.
The State Government and the Niger Police Command are currently being sought out for their opinions.
