Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) presidential candidate, has come under fire for a comment that has been attributed to him, according to Festus Keyamo, a spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council.
During a town hall meeting with party members and stakeholders on Wednesday in Abeokuta, Atiku made a commitment. He declared that he will award contracts and positions to PDP polling station victors.
To win the elections, “once I am president, if you come and say you want a job or you want a contract, I will ask you to let me have the result of your polling booth,” Abubakar had previously claimed.
“You cannot be following the governor to all the places or the senator to all the places and then you don’t win your polling booth and you come and say you want to be a minister or you want to get this contract.”
In a tweet responding to the comments, Keyamo claimed the ex-vice president had forgotten that the public procurement laws define the process by which contracts are granted.
“#Atikugate. A leopard cannot change its skin,” the minister of state for labour declared.
“He is already promising contracts to political allies, forgetting that there is a law called the Public Procurement Act. Mr SPV!”
