BREAKING: Gunmen Hit Ex-Gov Ohakim’s Convoy In Imo, Kill Policemen

Gunmen ambushed the convoy of Ikedi Ohakim, a former governor of Imo state, on Monday, and murdered police officers who were assigned to him.

According to information obtained by Prime 9ja Online, the event took place when the former governor was travelling back from Orieagu in the state's Ehime Mbano region.

It was unclear if he was travelling to Owerri, the state capital, or to his home at Okohia in Isiala Mbano, but eyewitnesses said that when the shooters were unable to capture him, they hit the backup vehicle carrying the police and burned it on fire.

As a result, four of his police officers perished away.

Between 2007 to 2011, Ohakim presided as governor of Imo state.

The former was with two of his children when the shooters attacked, according to an eyewitness.

According to reports, the hoodlums would have succeeded in taking down the ex-governor if not for the exuberance of his chauffeur.

After the shooters fled, the governor allegedly made a quick call and a reinforcement was rushed to Owerri.

CSP Mike Abattam, the Imo State Police Command's spokesperson, could not be reached for comment since his phone was ringing nonstop and he had not yet responded to a text received at the time this story was made.
