Buhari celebrates Doyin Abiola at 80

President Muhammadu Buhari has joined friends and family in wishing Dr Doyin Abiola, a former managing director and editor-in-chief of the Concord Group of newspapers, a happy 80th birthday on February 1, 2023.

In a message of congratulations delivered on Tuesday in Abuja by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, Buhari praised Abiola's abilities and intellect for making history as the nation's first female newspaper editor at such a young age.

Buhari claimed that the distinguished media figure and opinion shaper, who began her journalism career in 1969 and obtained a degree in communications and political science in 1979, shared his satisfaction at the achievement.

He added that the media personality had many years of expertise and had expanded the depth and extent of publishing.

He claimed that Abiola's love of studying and doing research influenced her intellectual contributions to the thriving and dynamic Nigerian media.

He also praised her for pursuing and upholding the truth with courage and for fighting ardently for the interests of the majority, notably in the areas of democracy and good governance.

Buhari praised Abiola for her historic contributions as a columnist for Daily Sketch in the 1960s, a features writer for Daily Times, a pioneering daily editor of National Concord, a later group features editor, and the nation of Nigeria's first female editor-in-chief.

The president celebrated with the media legend for a life filled with firsts, inspiring countless people and mentoring business leaders.

He asked God to give the elderly woman strength, good health, and blessings for her family. (NAN)
