DSS arrests Middle Belt Youths president

Godwin Meliga, the leader of the Middle Belt Youth Vanguard, has been taken into custody by DSS agents. Godwin Meliga was a member of a coalition of organisations that alerted the public to the DSS's intention to detain Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), for allegedly supporting terrorism.

The DSS headquarters sent agents to raid activist Meliga's home in Gwarimpa at around midnight on Saturday. They disarmed the security guard, broke down the gate, barged inside, and severely abused Meliga before dragging him away in handcuffs, according to Meliga's family members, who confirmed his arrest to journalists.

He was reportedly only wearing a singlet and boxers when he was arrested.

His kin claimed the secret service agents had been after him, and on Thursday they had detained a man named Samson Babalola who was rumoured to have been in Meliga's car.

Additionally, the family has learned through connections inside the service that he was detained as a result of disclosing the claimed plot to frame the CBN Governor, which caused the Service significant embarrassment.

Comrade Meliga's life would be in grave danger if he were to be unlawfully arrested due to the regular narcotics he uses, according to his wife, who has been distraught ever since her husband was attacked.

The National Executive Committee of the Middle Belt Youth Vanguard would be convening an emergency meeting in Abuja on Monday to consider securing Meliga's release, according to Abbah Owoicho, the organization's communications secretary.
