Federal High Court appoints nine new judges

The Federal High Court's Chief Judge, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, announced the appointment of nine new judges to the court on Friday. Along with the 15 justices who were previously authorised, nine more judges have been appointed.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, approved the appointment of nine additional judges in addition to the fifteen judges who had already been approved, according to a statement issued by the court's Assistant Director of Information, Catherine Oby Christopher.

In a statement, the Federal High Court stated that it will soon start considering applicants for possible appointments to the benches in the states of Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Gombe, Ogun, and Oyo.

“In line with the NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for Appointment of Judicial Officers of Superior Courts, the Honourable Chief Judge, therefore, invites Your Lordships, the Hon. Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and the President Nigerian Bar Association to kindly nominate suitably qualified persons from the aforementioned States for appointment to the Federal High Court Bench.

“All recommendations are to reach the Chambers of the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court on or before 28 February 2023.”
