The federal government has declared that it is prepared to increase its capability and address health issues in the nation.
This was said on Saturday at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo, during the launching of projects by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Emmanuel Ehanire.
A new oxygen plant, a patients' clinic complex, a medical outpatient clinic, and a molecular laboratory complex are among the projects that were commissioned. The federal government provided funding via COVID-19 for the renovated and updated intensive care complex, radiology complex, genealogy, pharmacy/laboratory unit, surgical outpatients clinic, orthopaedic outpatients clinic, and genealogy clinic.
The minister compared the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital's development trajectory to that of one of India's primary hospitals as he expressed satisfaction with the hospital's management.
According to him, the completed projects demonstrated the federal government's commitment to fulfilling its obligation to Nigeria by providing its residents with contemporary medical facilities.
The Federal Ministry of Health has now implemented a one-to-one policy, which would allow a Chief Medical Director to immediately replace a doctor or nurse who is permanently out of duty, the minister said when discussing brain drain in the country's health sector.
Prof. Ememabasi Bassey, the Chief Medical Director of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, stated during his speech that the teaching hospital's infrastructure has improved since he took office four years ago.
