Idowu Korede, the commissioner for environmental and sanitation issues in Osun State, has died.
According to reports, shortly before the new year, Korede passed away in Lagos on Saturday night as a result of a medical condition.
According to reports Prime 9ja Online received, Korede has been battling this illness for a while.
Before becoming the interior minister, Rauf Aregbesola served as commissioner for the Ilesa East LGA during his second term as governor.
Formerly, Korede presided over the Ilesa East local government.
The Osun Progressives (TOP), an APC group in Osun that supported Aregbesola, had Korede as a prominent member.
The group and Gboyega Oyetola's party fought tooth and nail till Oyetola's party finally lost the governorship race in the state last year as Aregbesola's successor took power in the state.
The APC's internal unrest was viewed as a factor in Oyetola's reelection campaign's demise.
Tim Owoeye, the Speaker of the State Assembly for the APC, announced Korede's death.
Owoeye sent his sympathies to the deceased's family, the residents of Ilesa, and the APC.
In a statement sent by his media assistant Kunle Alabi, the Speaker lamented the passing of a "huge blow to the progressive family in the state."
“The death of Korede Idowu is a big loss to Ilesa, Osun, as well as the entire progressive family. Idowu’s contributions to the growth of Ilesa and Osun will be missed,” he said.
“Idowu’s death is sudden and shocking but with submission to the will of God, which we mortals can not question.
“I commiserate with the Idowu family, Ilesa East Local Government and Ijesa South Federal constituency at large. I pray that God Almighty will receive the soul of the departed leader and comfort his family,” he concluded.
