In the spirit of African unity and brotherhood, Nigeria would help the Republic of Burundi in various ways as needed, according to President Muhammadu Buhari.
At State House in Abuja on Tuesday, the President assured President Evariste Ndayishimiye's special envoy, who had come with a message.
President Buhari responded to the Burundian leader's request for assistance in energy provision, particularly fuel, by saying that he understood how it felt for a nation to experience an energy shortage and that he would ask the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to look into the matter.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, the President expressed excitement for the elections and retirement, noting that he had completed the two terms of service mandated by the Constitution.
Burundi's Minister of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Hon. Audace Niyonzima expressed that his President wished Nigerians a happy new year and President Buhari success in the next general elections, which are slated for February and March of this year.
“We pray that the polls would be peaceful and successful so that Nigeria would maintain her reputation as a bastion of peace and stability,” the Special Envoy said.
