John Bahago resigns as Niger NNPP gubernetorial candidate

John Bahago, the New Nigeria Political Party's (NNPP) deputy governorship candidate in Niger State, resigned from his position a few weeks before the governorship election.

Bahago reportedly joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state after leaving the NNPP.

The national secretariat of the party has been informed of the newest development, according to a source close to the NNPP state secretariat in Minna who yesterday verified the news to Prime 9ja Online.

The source, who withheld explanations for Bahago's resignation and defection, claimed that the former candidate informed the party's ward and local government branches of his decision in a letter.

Prime 9ja Online has already learned that Mr. Pius Wakili, a prominent politician who once served as the governor of Niger State's special adviser on political matters, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has been chosen to succeed Bahago.

When reached by phone, Wakili verified that he is now Mohammed Sokodeke's running mate for the NNPP's governorship in the election.

He said: “Yes I am the deputy governorship candidate; very soon I will address the media on my new position.”

Last Tuesday, a one-time state Deputy Governor and Nigerian former Ambassador to South Africa, Mr. Ahmed Ibeto, resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing irreconcilable differences for his action.

It is being speculated that Ibeto will be joining the PDP any moment from now.
