Kaduna: NDLEA arrests 4, seizes 298 bags of cannabis

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kaduna State Command said that four people were caught in possession of 298 bags of Cannabis Sativa.

The state's NDLEA commander, Mr Ibrahim Braji, made this announcement on Wednesday at a news conference in Kaduna.

He stated that the suspects were apprehended by agency agents on January 3rd in the Tasu Mahuta neighbourhood on Refinery Road in the state's Chikun Local Government Area.

The Commander claims that the workers apprehended four people—two ladies and two men—carrying 3,576 kg of cannabis.

In order to reduce the entry and exit of narcotics from the state, the command had extended its operational structure, and an investigation had been started in order to find more individuals who could be detained and punished.

He listed the newly constituted area commands as Makarfi, Soba, Kaduna North, and Kaduna South. He added that because of their proximity to several states, police vehicles had been despatched to the Samaru, Zaria, and Sanga area commands.

Before the general election in 2023, the command, according to Braji, would run an awareness campaign to educate young people about the risks of drug abuse and its negative effects.

He stated, “The sensitisation would be in schools, religious bodies, traditional institution, and vulnerable places,” and he implored the young people not to let themselves be used as agents of devastation by the negative forces in society.
