William Ruto, the president of Charlene Ruto's native Kenya, has defended his daughter and refuted claims that the "Office of the First Daughter" exists there.
Charlene Ruto has been attending high-profile events and meetings as the First Daughter since her father's inauguration in September.
Such a facility is not recognised under Kenyan law.
On Wednesday, the president rejected the notion that such a position existed.
Mr Ruto told reporters at State House, Nairobi, “Leave my daughter Charlene alone, you know these are kids, they’re just being children, you know very well that there is no such office…. she is just being the daughter of William Ruto, and sometimes she doesn’t know the divide between the president and the father.”
Concerns were raised over whether or not the president’s daughter was utilising public funds for her activities.
But last month, she dismissed suggestions that taxpayers’ funds were supporting the “Office of the First Daughter.”
She said: “The Office of the First Daughter is a private entity. It is neither a constitutional office nor is it being funded by the Kenyan taxpayer.”
