LGBTQ activist Edwin Chiloba found dead in Kenya
A metal box containing the remains of young fashion designer and LGBTQ activist Edwin Chiloba has been discovered by the side of the road in the town of Eldoret, and the police in Kenya are investigating his death.

A police spokesman was quoted in the Star adding that they do not know what motivated the murder.

Gay sex is illegal in Kenya, but human rights groups there are making the connection between this and his sexual orientation anyhow.

Over half of Kenyans who identify as LGBTQ, according to one organisation, have experienced violence.

“Words cannot even explain how we as a community are feeling right now. Another soul lost due to hate. You will be missed,” rights group galck+ tweeted.

The National Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission stated on Instagram that “Edwin’s death reminds us that queer bodies continue to be under attack all over the country.”

Chiloba was praised as “an amazing human” and an “iconic fashion designer” in online tributes.

For example, Chiloba posted last month on Instagram that he was “going to fight for all marginalised people,” explaining that he felt he had been marginalised in the past.

On Wednesday, his body was discovered.

A witness is reported to have seen a car without a licence plate pull over to the side of the road, where they then left a metal box.

The police were alerted and discovered the body upon opening the box.

“We don’t know for now why he was killed that way. Experts are handling the matter,” Resila Onyango, a police department spokeswoman, is reported as adding.
