Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre (MLAILPKC) has been praised by the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Mr Clem Agba, for its efforts to increase the capability to combat piracy in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG).
Agba presented the commendation on Monday in Abuja at the beginning of the Anti-piracy Course 4/23, which was organised by MLAILPKC. Agba was represented by his Special Assistant, Mr Abdulrahaman Bwacha.
He claimed that the centre had won praise for offering a top-notch e-learning platform that was primarily devoted to courses on peacekeeping, humanitarian aid, and security operations.
Agba claimed that despite the prevalence of instability, humanitarian crises, and displaced communities in Nigeria, the MLAILPKC had continued to be a dependable training facility for leadership and peacekeeping operations.
The minister praised the dedication of multinational organisations to maintaining the centre.
The retired Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab, Director-General of the Nigerian Army Resource Center (NARC), urged the course's participants to be open-minded about learning the skills necessary to combat piracy in the GoG.
According to Wahab, one of the economic pillars of the country has been the maritime sector, and he added that without security, no country could advance.
He claimed that Nigeria would be in trouble if the economic security of the maritime environment was not ensured, thus we must find a way to guarantee the security of the Gulf of Guinea.
“Whether we like it or not for so many reasons, we must ensure that the sea is secured and everybody must come around to assist those who are responsible, particularly the Nigerian Navy, “he said.
“It is the responsibility of every Nigerian. Nobody will come from outside, they can assist us in funding but the onus of performance is on Nigeria and other member states to ensure that the Gulf of Guinea is secured,” he said. (NAN)
