Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has mandated the immediate reinstatement of all forestry consultants and licences.
Early in December, the governor put on hold and reviewed all of the permits for plantation or forest reserve concession allocation, sawmill permits (both new and renewals), flinch-sawn evacuation, timber and logs, hammering (or release), motor sawing (or access), forest reserve concession allocation, and Tungya farming system allocation.
In a statement announcing the suspension, the governor's spokesman Mallam Olawale Rasheed said it came as a result of an examination of the state's tax collection agency.
But Governor Adeleke sharply warned forestry businesses and permit holders to continue being open and truthful in their day-to-day activities.
“Any forestry operator who violates operational regulations will be summarily removed from the field,” he continued.
