PDP suspends Ebonyi chair for ‘anti-party activities’

Okorie Okoroafor, the PDP chair for Ebonyi State, has been suspended for alleged anti-party behaviour.

Dele Ologunagba, the PDP's spokesperson, made the announcement in a statement on Friday in Abuja, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to Ologunagba, the PDP NWC's emergency meeting on Friday in Abuja accepted the suspension.

In accordance with Sections 29 (2)(b) and 57(3) of the PDP constitution, the PDP's National Working Committee (NWC), acting on behalf of the PDP's National Executive Committee (NEC), has authorised Okoroafor's suspension, which will take effect on Friday, January 27. (as modified).

He clarified that the "allegations of anti-party actions and infringement of provisions of Section 58(1) of the PDP constitution (as revised in 2017)" were the causes of his suspension.

Ologunagba added that the party's appropriate disciplinary committee had received a submission from the suspended PDP chairman.

According to sources cited by Prime 9ja Online, Okoroafor's suspension was caused by his decision not to attend a PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar rally in the state. The PDP withheld information on the alleged anti-party behaviour against Okoroafor.

He has been accused of being "in infatuation" with the All Progressives Congress (APC), the state's ruling party, by the PDP chapter in Ebonyi.

PDP members have recently been suspended for anti-party behaviour.

Chimaroke Nnamani, a former governor of Enugu State and senatorial candidate for the state's Enugu East District, was most recently suspended by the party for indulging in similar anti-party activities.

It was said that Nnamani backed APC presidential contender Bola Tinubu.

Ten people were suspended after being accused of wrongdoing, including the former governor.
