At least fifteen hostages have been successfully freed by the Zamfara State Police Command.
On Tuesday, the bandits abducted the victims off the route between Gusau and Funtua.
The command promptly sent out a rescue operation and a patrol unit to instil confidence, according to Muhammad Shehu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
After a bloody gunfight, the offenders withdrew and fled into the forest, leaving the hostages behind, according to the PPRO.
Police personnel from the operation team rescued 15 persons in all, including seven women, six men, and two kids, he added.
The PPRO went on to claim that the victims had met with the police commissioner to discuss further details for an intelligence report and had undergone a complete medical check.
He pledged that as soon as possible, the family members of the freed hostages will be reunited with them.
