Scotland stops movement of all transgender inmates while rules are being reviewed

Scotland has ceased any transportation of transgender prisoners until it performs a "urgent" review of the laws.

It comes after Scottish jail authorities recently decided to move Tiffany Scott, who followed a 13-year-old girl while under the alias Andrew Burns, to an all-female facility.

According to Nicola Sturgeon's declaration last week, Isla Bryson, a transgender woman convicted of rape committed while she was a man, won't be kept in Scotland's all-female Cornton Vale jail.

"We have started an urgent evaluation of all transgender cases currently managed in our establishments," a Scottish Prison Service official stated.

The review would take into account "any history of violence or sexual offending against women, and related risk, with a view to establishing the most appropriate location for the individual to be lodged," the spokesperson added.
