In preparation for the general elections of 2023, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has made its presidential campaign council list public.
In the recently revealed list of authorised National Campaign Members, which also includes important party leaders, former presidential candidate Khadijah Okunnu-Lamidi (KOL) was named Deputy Director General of Presidential Campaigns of the Council by the National Working Committee (NWC).
"The novel and innovative Complementing National Campaign Structure adopted by the Social Democratic Party is to ensure maximum productive engagement with the electorates to optimise the chances of multiple electoral success to restore justice, peace, and prosperity to our dear country under SDP Governments," according to an official party statement from Dr. Olu Agunloye, SDP National Secretary.
Okunnu-Lamidi has remained devoted to the party despite failing to secure the party's nomination for president in the 2022 primary elections. She is dedicated to reviving Nigeria's reform agenda.
The humanitarian CEO of Slice Media Solutions has declared that she will support the party's presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo.
Okunnu-Lamidi has formally joined the campaign, continuing a political career that has never shied away from ideology. She is use her skills, talents, and clout to support the cause of raising awareness. Her objective is to assist in positioning the party for success.
She said the latest selections made by the Social Democratic Party's presidential campaign demonstrated the campaign's skill and composure for success.
“I will work diligently to execute the mandate of our party and the zealous mission of our candidate to protect the most vulnerable members of our communities, to bring opportunity and security and to restore dignity, freedom, peace, and unity.”
She praised the NWC’s decisions, adding, “I am immensely grateful for the high confidence the NWC of our great SDP demonstrated in me with this critical appointment as Deputy Director General of our winning Presidential campaign.
“I am honoured by the opportunity to serve our nation and the SDP in the mission to reinstate the honour of our peoples and the seemingly elusive promise of our nationhood. I have never been more hopeful about Nigeria.
“I believe in Nigeria’s promise, in the drive and energy of our peoples, their sterling character and unbreakable resilience, their faith in themselves, and the unlimited talents with which the Almighty has endowed us.
“I join this campaign to help in correcting the existing state of affairs built to dash the hopes of our people. I am bound to honour the trust that has been reposed in me with diligence, and the same high character and sense of responsibility that is exemplified by our candidate and the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria: Prince Adewole Adebayo.”
KOL urges the political elite to wake up to their responsibilities before the 2023 elections.
“Our campaign is to meet the mandate of an electorate eager for practical reforms in our economy, security and governance, which will consolidate our energy and talents and redirect the course of our nation’s history.
“We cannot dine and dance like the first-class passengers on the ill-fated SS Titanic who, wrapped in comfort, deluded themselves that the dangers of a sinking ship would afflict only the weak and the poor.
“We must avert the catastrophe of our sinking ship because we know that the fate of the weak, the poor, the vulnerable widow and the scared and homeless orphan is the fate collective of every single one of us. It is this loss of hope and safety for our children and generations unborn that we wake up each day to defend.
“When Nigerians find new trust in their government; they will believe that it truly cares about them and that it will work for them. It is only then they will lend her their faith and talents to restore the development that has so long eluded us. We are listening to our people; we are hearing the things that travail them and we are bringing solutions and solace,” KOL stated.
She further pleaded with people to give the SDP a chance to break through the mistrust that has persisted for decades.
“We must arise to solve our contemporary issues. There is a need to identify and stand with the leaders of our time and quit looking backwards,” and they should choose wisely, work together and vote SDP.”
