2023: Akwa Ibom APC candidate promises local council autonomy, inaugurates campaign council

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Akanimo Udofia, has declared that he will fully autonomic local government administration if he wins the 2019 election.

At the start of the Akan Udofia/Victor Antai Governorship Campaign Council over the weekend in Uyo, Obong Udofia made the commitment. In order to help the rural areas develop more quickly, he claimed that the local government should be made to function as a development hub.

The candidate for governor centred his campaign on the concept of "shared prosperity," according to a news release from Mr Anietie Ekong, the Director of Electronic and Print Media for the Akan Udofia Campaign Council. He stated that he planned to use his campaign to effect change and enhance everyone's future in Akwa Ibom.

"It is a well-known fact that while our economy has grown significantly in recent decades, the benefits of this growth have not been shared equally," Obong Udofia was quoted as saying. Too many people are being left behind, and the wealth gap between the rich and poor is widening.

“To bring about shared prosperity, we will take bold and innovative steps to address our people’s challenges. We need to creatively invest in education, infrastructure and job creation so that everyone has the opportunity to succeed. We need to ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare and that we support those struggling to make ends meet.

“Even the rich are being decimated by poor governance in Akwa Ibom. This is unacceptable, and it is our responsibility to do something about it. The journey ahead of us will not be easy but I am confident that with your hard work and dedication, we can succeed,” he told members of the Campaign Council.

Obong Akan Udofia also took the chance to tell the people that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Presidential candidate of the APC, cared about Akwa Ibom State, which is why he promised to give the state a deep seaport if he was elected President. He also asked the people to ignore those who said the APC candidate had insulted the people.

Obong Steve Ntokekpo, the State Chairman of the APC, thanked party members in the state for the large number of people who came to the Presidential rally. He also told the people not to fear anyone because the party was in charge of the Federal Government and would do everything to protect its members.

Mr Don Etim, the Director General of the Campaign and a former Commissioner for Works in the state spoke on behalf of the Campaign Council members. He told them to be proud of their candidate because he had never been involved in a scandal and wouldn’t be anyone’s puppet.

He thanked the members for their hard work and determination and told them they would do everything possible to get an APC government in the state.
