Prior to the February 25 presidential election, the candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party (LP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Mr. Peter Obi, respectively, claimed that they were in discussions about forming an alliance or receiving each other's support.
Our reporter overheard Atiku say this during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Tuesday.
He asserted that neither Obi nor Kwankwaso, however, posed a threat to his chances of winning the election on February 25. He claimed that in order to increase his chances of winning, he required their assistance.
“Although, I see no threat in any of them but we are in talks, and the discussion might yield a positive result that will see one of them coming,” Atiku said.
Atiku said every party has its internal crisis and that the PDP was no different. He also said that his party worked hard to settle every disagreement as soon as possible.
“Each party has its internal crisis; we are still talking with them. Most are neither in PDP nor other parties, and that will definitely not make us lose the election because we are okay with the election preparations for now.
“Election now is not like in the past when a governor will dictate who to vote for, election today is in the hands of the voters,” Atiku said.
