2023 Election: Abiru wins Lagos East Senate seat for APC
Adetokunbo Abiru has been declared the winner of the Lagos East Senatorial District election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate secured 178,646 votes, beating his closest opponent, Akobada Adekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 80,249 votes.

The Returning Officer for the East Senatorial District announced the results on Monday at the INEC Collation Centre in Somolu. The district comprises Somolu, Kosofe, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, and Ikorodu local government areas.

A total of nine political parties contested for the East Senatorial election seat. Other results include Imumolen Ehijele Benedict, A, who scored 2,211 votes; Ashiru George Olalekan-Honey, ADC, who scored 14,713 votes; Olowolayemo Temitope Temitayo, BP, who scored 1,049 votes; and Lawal Nurudeen Folorunsho, NNPP, who scored 7,305 votes. Ediale Christopher, NRM, received 508 votes; Oluwaranmilowo Mayowa, SDP, received 6,009 votes; and Obadiaru Charles Imuenoghonwen, YPP, received 4,345 votes.

Abiru's victory means that he will represent the Lagos East Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate. His win is expected to further strengthen the APC's majority in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
