Professor Ahmed Balarabe, the returning officer on duty, stated that due to overvoting and violence occurring in seven polling units situated in Bagudo and Kaoje, supplementary elections would have to take place.
During this contentious election, Senator Abdullahi Yahaya, who formerly served as majority leader in the Senate achieved a lead of 95,137 votes against his opponent from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Hussain Suleiman Kangiwa, who polled 86,531 votes.
This result however does not grant Senator Abdullahi Yahaya a definite victory until the supplementary elections are held and concluded.
