In a statement released by the National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, LP alleged that its members were deliberately prevented from voting or chased away violently from polling units in Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Kano, Yobe, and Edo states. In addition, ballot papers and boxes were destroyed and burnt in some areas. According to Umar, INEC staff and electoral materials were not deployed to LP strongholds or deployed late to frustrate party supporters.
Umar also accused INEC of deliberately delaying the announcement of results where LP had taken the lead. Furthermore, he alleged that voters who identified as LP supporters were denied access to their polling units or sent to the wrong ones, reducing the votes polled by LP.
LP has called on INEC to take punitive measures against its polling staff in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022 as amended. The party has assured its members and supporters that it will challenge the outcome and final result in court. However, LP also called for calm and urged its members to remain law-abiding and mobilize for the next round of elections.
