2023 Election: Man in Sokoto collects voters' bank details with POS, tells them to vote APC
A man in Sokoto state was caught collecting voters’ bank details using a Point of Sale (POS) machine at a polling unit during the ongoing gubernatorial and state assembly elections.

According to reports, the man approached voters and offered to give them money if they vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates. He then proceeded to collect their bank details using the POS machine.

One voter who was at the polling unit at the time said the man was very bold in his approach, and many people had given him their details before they realized what was happening.

The incident has raised concerns about the security of voters' personal information during the election process. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned against the collection of voters' bank details, stating that it is illegal and punishable by law.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Sokoto state, Sadiq Musa, has condemned the act and urged voters to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested the man in question and are currently investigating the matter.

The Sokoto state police spokesman, Muhammad Sadiq, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.

The police have also assured voters of their safety and urged them to come out and exercise their civic duty without fear of intimidation or harassment.
