The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ezea the winner of the election with a total of 104,492 votes, while Ugwuanyi garnered 46,948 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr Simon Eze, came in third with 6,816 votes.
This victory by the Labour Party is not the only one as the party's Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, is reportedly giving Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the APC a run for his money in Lagos.
Obi defeated Tinubu in the Ikeja Local Government Area, which has been a stronghold for the APC leader since 1999.
These results indicate a significant shift in the Nigerian political landscape and rising popularity of the Labour Party.
