2023 Election: Shettima Leaves Polling Station Due to Missing INEC Officials and Materials

 Kashim Shettima, the Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was unable to vote at his polling unit in Lawan Bukar ward of Maiduguri metropolis due to the absence of election officials and materials. Shettima arrived at the polling unit with many other voters but left after waiting for about 10 minutes.

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno accompanied Shettima to the polling unit. Meanwhile, voting had commenced in many other polling units in the metropolis.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), out of the 93,469,008 registered voters, 87,209,007 voters have collected their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and are expected to vote. The four leading presidential candidates are Bola Tinubu of the APC, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The absence of election officials and materials at Kashim Shettima's polling unit raises concerns about the efficiency and effectiveness of the electoral process. It is essential that the INEC ensures the timely and adequate distribution of election materials to all polling units to prevent voters from being disenfranchised.
