The markets affected include the Ladipo auto parts market, Balogun, and Ebute-Ero on Lagos Island and Mainland. Traders claimed that some of the thugs broke into shops and made away with goods.
Some traders suffered injuries while trying to flee from the area. James Onwuaman, a trader at Balogun Market, Lagos Island, said that he was injured during the attack. Traders received threatening messages on Sunday, warning them to stay away from the market.
Another trader at the Balogun market, who identified himself as Benjamin, said that traders were watching how the events of the day would unfold.
There is apprehension in other markets like Computer Village in Ikeja and Alaba International and Trade fair markets, both in Ojo.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, dismissed the claims of the attacks, stating that the traders agreed to close their shops on Sunday and Monday and the thugs only came to enforce the agreement.
However, this statement contradicts the accounts of the traders who claimed that the attack was unprovoked.
