The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, assigned Muhammad Yakubu, a new police commissioner, to Kano State Command prior to the general elections in 2023.
Yakubu is now in command of the Kano Police Command, according to Prime 9ja Online. Mamman Dauda, his immediate predecessor and the person in charge of the state police command, was transferred to Plateau State.
For the general elections, CP Ita Uko-Udom was dispatched to the Kano Central Senatorial District. DCPs Abaniwonda Olufemi and Adamu Ngoji were moved to the Kano North Senatorial District, while DCPs Abdulkadir El-Jamal and Adamu Ngoji were sent to the Kano South.
The news was confirmed by Abdullahi Haruna, the PPRO for the Kano State Command, in a phone chat with journalists on Tuesday evening.
“The information is correct; we now have a new CP in Kano. But Kano was not the only state where this happened.” Haruna said.
In a follow-up statement that our reporter got, the PPRO said, “The Kano State State Police Command wishes to inform the good people of Kano State that CP Muhammad Yakubu assumed duty as the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command today, while CP Mamman Dauda has been posted to Plateau State Police Command for the 2023 general elections.
“CP Yakubu can be reached on 09121461323. Similarly, CP Ita Uko-Udom is posted to Kano Central Senatorial District, DCP Adamu Ngoji and DCP Abdulkadir El-Jamal are assigned to Kano South Senatorial District, and DCP Abaniwonda Olufemi is posted to Kano North Senatorial District for the 2023 general elections.
“The Command appreciates the good people of Kano State for their prayers, support, encouragement and cooperation. We, therefore, solicit the cooperation of all as we are committed to ensuring free, fair, credible, transparent and successful 2023 general elections. Thank you and God bless.”
According to Prime 9ja Online, Mamman Dauda, a former CP for Kano, has been transferred to Plateau. The New Nigeria People's Party has claimed that the CP was conspiring with the state administration to harm the party during the election period.
The party requested that the IG transfer the state's police commissioner elsewhere.
The ruling All Progressives Congress, on the other hand, said that they had voiced similar worries and that the CP was not being strong on criminals who supported the NNPP.
