The move was prompted by the activities of hoodlums known as Sara-Suka, who have been causing unrest in the area.
The joint security team includes the Police, Military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Immigration Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and Nigeria Customs Service. They have been patrolling major streets in the city to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the elections.
Speaking on the security measures, the Niger State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Usman, stated that the security operatives have been well-trained to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, and also urged residents to cooperate with them.
The deployment of security personnel to strategic locations across the country has been a common sight ahead of the elections to prevent any form of violence or unrest.
The security operatives have been charged with maintaining law and order before, during and after the elections.
