Bauchi Government Closes Schools Ahead of Elections

The Bauchi government has declared a two-day break for all state-owned schools ahead of the presidential and federal parliamentary elections on Saturday.

Education Commissioner Jamila Dahiru made the announcement at a news conference in Bauchi.

Presidential Elections Break

For the presidential elections, day school students should remain at home on Friday 24th and Monday 27th of February 2023. School activities are set to resume on Tuesday 28th February 2023.

Gubernatorial Elections Break

For the gubernatorial elections, day school students should remain at home on Friday 10th and Monday 13th of March 2023.

School activities are set to resume on Tuesday 14th March 2023, while boarding school students are to remain in their respective schools during the break.

Reason for the Break

The break has been announced to allow teachers and parents to prepare to participate in the polls.

The government is conscious that some students might travel with their parents to their local governments or areas of origin to cast their votes, and that some of the teachers may be involved in activities related to the elections.

Adequate Preparation

The break has been declared to ensure that teachers and parents have sufficient time to prepare for the elections.

This will allow them to make the necessary arrangements, both logistic and personal, in order to participate in the voting process.

Benefits of the Break

The two-day break ensures that teachers and parents have enough time to prepare for the elections without disrupting the daily school activities.

The break will also provide students with the opportunity to spend quality time with their families and loved ones.

Transportation

The government is also aware that some students may need to travel to their places of origin to cast their votes.

The break will ensure that they have adequate time to make the necessary travel arrangements and reach their destinations safely and on time.
