Prior to the March 11 general election, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha won the All Progressives Congress Gubernatorial Primary runoff.
In response to a lawsuit brought by one of the candidates, Chief David Sabo Kente, the Supreme Court had already declared the party's gubernatorial primary held last year invalid and ordered a new election.
Senator Bwacha has proclaimed the victor of the indirect primary held on Friday in Jalingo by former Chief of the Army Staff and APC Chieftain, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai. He praised the peaceful conduct of the elections by the participants and all parties involved.
Buratai stated that Senator Emmanuel Bwacha received 778 votes out of the 840 total votes cast when announcing the outcome.
According to the former COAS, six candidates ran for the party's nomination ahead of the March 11 governorship election in the state, including Chief David Sabo Kente, Senator Yusuf A. Yusuf, Engineer Saleh Maman, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, Dr Anthony Manzo, and Mr Danladi Kifasi.
Additionally, Buratai declared that Senator Yusuf A. Yusuf received five votes to finish second in the rerun.
Senator Bwacha urged APC supporters to work hard for the party's advancement during the election in his speech shortly after he was named the winner.
He also gave his party's followers assurances that he would win the election.
Alhaji Uba Maigari, the chairman of the Bwacha Campaign Organization and a former deputy governor of Taraba State, claimed that the confirmation of Bwacha's mandate proved that God had preselected him to serve as the state's future governor.
He emphasised that despite the setbacks, the organisation is devoted to securing the party's success and that a campaign to ensure the party's overall win in the state will soon begin.
