The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that eligible registrants for this year's general elections have collected a total of 87,209,007 permanent voter cards (PVCs).
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this information at the daily briefing of the commission held at the national collation centre in Abuja.
He further revealed that the number of uncollected PVCs as of 5th February 2023 was 6,259,229.
Leading the pack for the number of PVCs collected was Lagos State, with 6,214,970, followed by Kano with 5,594,193.
Kaduna State came third with 4,164,473 PVCs collected, while Katsina State followed closely with 3,459,945.
Rivers State came fifth on the list with 3,285,785 PVCs collected as of 5th February 2023.
According to INEC records, 1,476,451 registrants collected their PVCs in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In contrast, Ekiti State recorded the least PVCs collected with 958,052. It is noteworthy that the total national registered voters stood at 93,469,008.
Furthermore, the percentage of PVCs collected was 93.3 per cent, while uncollected PVCs stood at 6.7 per cent.
These figures suggest that the majority of eligible registrants for the upcoming general elections have collected their PVCs, indicating a high level of preparedness among the electorate.
The collection of PVCs is an essential exercise that enables eligible voters to participate in the electoral process.
With the high level of PVC collection recorded in the country, the stage is set for a successful electoral process that will reflect the will of the people.
INEC has consistently urged eligible voters to collect their PVCs to enable them to exercise their civic duties.
With the PVC collection exercise now closed, INEC is set to conduct a free, fair, and credible electoral process that reflects the wishes of the Nigerian people.
