Mbeki also commended Nigerians for their determination, patience, and resilience throughout the electoral process. However, the observer group also noted areas of improvement that could make future electoral processes better. These areas include enhancing the accuracy of voter registration, the timely and efficient distribution of election materials, and ensuring the safety of electoral officials and voters.
Additionally, the Commonwealth observer group urged all parties to accept the final results of the election and channel their grievances through established legal channels. Mbeki also advised Nigerian authorities to investigate all allegations of violence and other electoral offences.
The observer group comprises 22 members from 16 countries, including Nigeria, and was deployed to observe the entire electoral process in Nigeria. The group is expected to release its final report on the elections in a few months.
