During yesterday’s inspection of some UTME registration centres in Lagos, the registrar found that Parkway Project, Digital Partners, and SystemSpecs charged applicants N5,800 and N6,500 instead of N5,700.
Also, it was found that a bank worked with Remita to charge N8,700 for registration, but the candidate was only given a receipt for N5,700.
Oloyede said that the agents would be given a chance to explain what they did, and if their reasons don’t make sense, they won’t be able to work with the board again.
While condemning the act, he said that JAMB pays the agents a weekly commission of 5% of the money they made, so there was no reason to overcharge the candidates for registration. He also said that the board has paid more than N300 million in commissions to agents and CBT centres.
He also said that what they did showed that they are not good enough to be registered, and he called on everyone to work together to make things right in the country.
When asked why JAMB required all candidates to have their email addresses, Oloyede said that important forms can’t be filled out without an email address. He also noted that sending SMS to candidates costs the board a lot of money, while emails cost less.
Oloyede insisted that the registration process wouldn’t go on past February 14, 2023, and more than 500,000 people have already signed up.
