Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde has halted his campaigning until further notice due to the state's ongoing gasoline and new naira note crises.
Makinde, whose campaign trail has travelled through several regions of the state, stated on Friday that his campaigning would be coming to an end at the flag off of the Omi-Adio-Ido Road.
Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, stated this in a statement.
The governor claimed that the suspension was made out of respect for the people's recent traumatic experiences with the state's ongoing fuel and new naira-note crises.
Makinde, who was in Ido to continue his campaign, gave the order to halt all activities since the level of suffering among the populace was intolerable.
The governor explained that the choice was made because he was elected to represent and safeguard the interests of state residents.
Makinde also instructed party leaders in the state to halt further political activities as he flagged off the Omi-Adio-Ido Road in an emotionally charged voice.
“Makinde’s love for his people necessitated this unprecedented move, at this time.
“We urge all residents and citizens of the state to remain calm as we navigate through this difficult period together,” the governor was quoted as saying. (NAN)
