NSCDC deploys 102,000 officers for elections

According to a statement from the spokesperson, Commandant Olusola Odumosu, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 102,000 personnel in preparation for the upcoming general election.

Commandant-General Ahmed Abubakar Audi made the announcement yesterday.

Audi also emphasized that the Corps is prepared to provide a secure environment for the elections to proceed smoothly.

“To have a successful execution of this assignment, the Corps shall engage officers from the Special Forces such as Arms Squad Unit, Counter Terrorism, Chemical, Biological Radiological and Explosives Unit (CBRNE), Female Squad, Rapid Response Squad (RRR), K9 and SWAT Unit, different from the regular conventional personnel.

“Our specially trained undercover personnel have been dispatched from each command to work effectively with other security agencies to maintain surveillance, and provide intelligence reports and updates on the security situation in different States, especially on flashpoints,” he said.

According to Commandant-General Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Anti-vandalism Squad and Special Forces will be deployed to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure from being vandalized, damaged, or burnt by criminals during the elections. He made this statement in a release by the NSCDC's spokesperson, Commandant Olusola Odumosu.

Audi reassured Nigerians that despite security challenges in some areas, the upcoming elections would be conducted without a hitch. He also mentioned that the Corps has implemented a strategy to enhance security measures nationwide and ensure that voters are not threatened or intimidated by hoodlums or party thugs before, during, or after the elections.
