Hon. Justice Ayedun Olusegun Odusola has been sworn in as the state's 12th Chief Judge by Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the state's governor.
Up until the National Judicial Council (NJC) recommended him, the governor nominated him, and the State House of Assembly gave its approval, Hon. Justice Odusola served as the state's acting top judge.
As new judges for the state's high court, the governor also swore in Hon. Justices Bolatito Florence Ajibade, Bankole Jacob Akinwunmi, Leonard Boyede Ologun, and Femi Sylvester Akinbinnu.
As members of the State Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Pastor Omofunmile Adejombo, Mrs Omolola Akinseloyin, and Mr Stanley Adeniyan were sworn in by Governor Akeredolu.
Their ceremony took place in the Governor's Office's Cocoa Conference Hall in Akure, Alagbaka.
According to the governor, being appointed chief judge or one of the other judges is the highest honour society can bestow upon a person.
He claimed that their appointment demonstrated both their moral character and competence in managing the court and practising law.
Akeredolu said that his government would keep its promise to support the judiciary. He also said, “Amidst the challenges faced by us, especially after the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 which impacted negatively on the finances of the State, we have continued to discharge our duties with utmost care and focus.”
The governor said that he had just given permission for work to start right away on building a new, ultra-modern court complex.
The governor says that the proposed architectural masterpiece will have all the features of a modern court complex, such as 21 courtrooms, a modern ceremony hall, a library, and more.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chief Judge thanked the governor for taking the NJC’s advice and making him and four others Judges of the state High Court based on their recommendations.
