The Ebubeagu security outfit, previously established by the state government, was recently proscribed by a Federal High Court for being illegal and unconstitutional. Despite the ruling, Governor Dave Umahi disbanded the outlawed Ebubeagu militia and announced the creation of two new security outfits, Ebonyi State Neighbourhood Watch and Ebonyi State Vigilante Corps.
The PDP's Deputy Director of Media and Publicity, Moses Idika, stated that the establishment of these new outfits remains opaque and that the public is unaware of their modus operandi. The party called on the security agencies to be vigilant and ensure the safety of Ebonyi residents.
Meanwhile, Governor Umahi has reassured the public of his commitment to protecting the lives and property of the people of the state, irrespective of their political affiliation, economic or social class. He stated that the new security outfits were created to complement the efforts of the police and other security agencies.
