As Nigeria held its presidential and National Assembly elections, a video allegedly featuring MC Oluomo went viral on social media. The clip was shared on Twitter by a netizen with the handle @chude__, who also called the attention of the Nigeria Police to the event that took place at a polling unit in Fehintola Giwa Street, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos.
In the Twitter post, @chude__ alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had refused to redeploy its Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Segun Agbaje, and that MC Oluomo had ensured that materials did not get to their destinations.
The video received a barrage of reactions on Twitter, prompting the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, to respond. Hundeyin assured the public that the video would be investigated and described the event as criminal and a violation of the Electoral Act 2022.
He also warned that violators would be prosecuted. While the investigation is ongoing, it remains to be seen whether the video is a recent one or a recycled one. However, the police have taken the matter seriously and are taking steps to ensure that the election process remains free and fair.
